Connect to your Valheim server

Find the address and password in your game panel, start the server and join from Valheim.

1. Open the game panel

  1. Log in to the store and open your services.
  2. Click your Valheim service, then click Open Game Panel. You are signed in automatically with your store account — no separate password needed.
  3. The first time only, an Authorize screen appears. Click Authorize to link your store account to the panel.

2. Find your address and password

The Home tab shows your server address with a Copy button. It looks like:

your-server-address:2456

The number after the : is your port, and it is part of the address — copy the whole thing.

Your server password is on the Settings tab. Every server is given its own random password when it is created, so it is safe to use as it is — but it is yours to change, and everyone joining needs it.

Password rules come from Valheim, not from us It must be at least 5 characters, and it cannot appear inside your server name or your world name. The panel checks both before it saves, so the server cannot end up refusing to start.

3. Start the server

If the server shows as Offline, press Start and watch the console. The very first start also generates the world, which takes a couple of minutes; it is ready when you see:

Game server connected

4. Join from Valheim

  1. Open Valheim, click Start Game and pick a character.
  2. Open the Join Game tab and click Join IP.
  3. Paste your full server address, including the port, and connect.
  4. Enter the server password when Valheim asks for it.

Playing with Xbox or Microsoft Store friends

Switch Crossplay on in the Settings tab and restart. There is one trade-off worth knowing: with crossplay on, Valheim stops accepting direct connections, and everyone — including Steam players — joins with the six-character join code shown in the console instead of the address.

Crossplay is off by default so the address the panel gives you works straight away.

Getting a friendlier address

The Subdomain tab claims a free yourname.yiorashost.com address for your server. Valheim does not look up ports automatically the way Minecraft does, so your Valheim address always ends with :2456 or whichever port you were given — the panel shows it complete and ready to paste.

Bringing a world you already have

  1. Stop the server.
  2. In the panel file manager, open .config/unity3d/IronGate/Valheim/worlds_local.
  3. Upload both files for your world — YourWorld.db and YourWorld.fwl.
  4. On the Settings tab, set World name to YourWorld and save.
  5. Start the server.
